fragile
we call to each other
fragile
we meet
fragile
breaking, falling apart
fragile

we stand together
fragile strangers
fragile humans
more human
together, fragile
opening to Sacred
mystery, fragile breaking
falling open
fragile contesting
fragile ideas
fragile faith
breaking, falling out
of transcendence
wanting a falling into
transcendence

fragile claiming
Spirit – we are
Spirited – we are
storied, we are
fragile
feeling
faithful
freedom
to meet each other
meet with Mercy
find after death
fragile life

labyrinth in stones

this poem was composed in response to a conversation at Uniting College for Leadership and Theology, facilitated by Andrew Root, exploring ‘ministry in a secular age’, and the idea that the secular is not ‘a-religious’ space to be filled by religious space, but a shared fragilisation of the varied beliefs, ideas, faiths, religions, philosophies to which humans shape our living.
